The Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce its 2026concerto competition

SYSO will hold its concerto competition on [INSERT DATE  This competition is open to violin, viola and cello players aged 8-17 in the Chicago southland area. Competitors must choose from a list of predetermined repertoire, and supply their own accompanist.

The winner of the competition will win a $500 prize, and must be available May 4th to perform their winning selection with SYSO at their May 4th concert, which will take place at 4PM at Crete-Monee High School.

When: Sunday October 12, 2025 1-5 PM

Where: The competition will be held at Flossmoor Community Church (2218 Hutchinson Road, Flossmoor IL)

Who: This competition is open to ALL violin, viola and cello players aged 8-17 in the Chicago southland area.

Cost: Applicants must submit a $30 payment via PayPal or Zelle (thesyso@gmail.com) to be entered.

Violin:

• Vittorio Monti, Czardas

• Edmund Severn, Polish Dance

• Eduard Mollenhauer, The Boy Paganini 

Viola:

• Antonio Vivaldi, Concerto in d minor (mvt. 1)

• Franceso Maria Veracini, Gigue 

Cello:

• William Henry Squire, Bouree op. 24

• William Henry Squire, Danse Rustique

• Sonata in C Major, Breval

Additional Rules: 

• Applicants may only perform listed selections for their instrument, no exceptions. 

• Applicants must perform with accompaniment

• Applicants must perform from memory.
